Will is a finite resource. Volitional efforts consume a lot of energy. Let's see why.

The dynamics of mental processes is such that different foci of activity constantly arise, decay and compete in the brain. The dominant focus begins to determine our behavior . The more competition flares up, the stronger the mental stress. In this case, psychologists talk about the occurrence of an internal conflict.

Volitional efforts are created by the activity of the prefrontal cortex (volitional center). Their task is to resolve the internal conflict by strengthening one of the hotbeds of activity as opposed to others. The stronger the inner conflict, the more energy is required for the will center to fulfill its role.

Moreover, internal conflict is a useless burning of energy in an attempt to overcome oneself. The stronger the internal conflict, the more energy burns in this furnace, and the less goes to its volitional center.

There are three important consequences from this:

1. The more energy we have, the easier it is for us to volitional efforts. No energy - no will.
2. The more powerful the inner conflict, the less energy we have.
3. The more powerful the inner conflict, the harder it is to develop the required volitional effort.

Hence the mechanics of self-control are reduced to two important postulates:

1. Develop your energy. More energy means more self-control.2. Master the techniques of psychoregulation to eliminate internal conflict. Less mental stress - the higher the ability to self-control.

The first step of the "Hunter" method is solving the first problem, the second one is solving the second ...)))
