One easy way of managing stress is to build up and nurture your social support network by doing things such as socializing more with people that you enjoy and joining clubs that interest you.

Recent research has shown that there are tangible stress relief and health benefits to being part of a social community. For example, researchers Cohen and Hoberman (1983) found that high levels of perceived social support can help protect a person from the negative effects of undergoing many stressful life events.

* Join a soccer league.
* Join a book club.
* Have a potluck dinner.

If you feel a lack of social connectedness, this can exacerbate stress-related problems. Our modern society tends to be fast-paced and can often leave us little time to nurture social connectedness. Therefore, it is important to plan time each week to nurture social connectedness with whatever activities you enjoy.
