Taxi, Uber or Shuttle? My advice to get to Amsterdam from Schiphol in the fastest way (and without scams). If you are hesitant about taking public transport or private transport to get to Amsterdam from Schiphol Airport, here is a complete guide where I explain some of the private travel options, approximate prices (they will vary depending on where your hotel is located) and advantages and disadvantages of each medium.

Here is the list with all the links to each service so you can book it in advance if it is of your interest.

1) Amsterdam taxi The official taxis are all lined up at the exit of Schiphol Plaza. Do not be fooled by alleged drivers who could haunt you before you get to the taxi line. They are not official taxi drivers, they can tell you that they are and that at the end of the trip they try to charge you an exorbitant amount. If you are in that situation, comment that you will call 112 because you are suffering a scam.

In that way, I imagine that you will want to reach an agreement soon with a fairer price of the trip because you will not have a license.

With the official taxis and so there is no scare it is better to ask them an estimate of the fare from there to your accommodation. Due to works on the roads and the consequent delay that may cause the rate to increase, so it never hurts to ask in advance.

Taxis are equipped with a taximeter, so if you ask the official taxi driver, the price will always be an estimated figure, but should not vary much from the final amount.

Schiphol taxi accepts as a form of payment: cash (in euros), debit card or credit card. The latter always have a PIN, that is, cards with signature are not accepted.

The inconvenience of taking a taxi is the waiting line: sometimes it is light, sometimes, it can be a bit eternal.

2) "I want an Uber"
If you are a fan of Uber (as I am in luck because Uber works in Amsterdam and also does it neatly, as in each country Uber has different characteristics, I'll explain how it works in the Netherlands.
And if you do not know what Uber is because in your country there is no service, you need to download the application where the instructions for use and registration in the service come.

3) Shuttle (shared minibus) from Schiphol Another option to assess to get to Amsterdam from Schiphol Airport is the shared minibus that provides the same airport to your hotel. In order to book the Schiphol shuttle to your accommodation, you must visit their website and make the payment. You can pay with your MasterCard, Visa or American Express cards.

The minibus leaves every 30 minutes, so if your flight is delayed, there is no major problem, and you can always take the next one. You must go to platform A7 of the bus zone. It does not have much loss because once you leave Schiphol Plaza to the street, you find this yellow signpost indicative.

4) Private driver (taxi) There are many websites that offer the service of transfer by car from Schiphol airport to Amsterdam (or other places in the country).

I consulted with one of them, exactly with the provider that is advertised in Civitatis, and they told me about the operation of this particular service: the driver will wait for you in the arrival hall of your flight (right after collecting your luggage) with a sign with your name written. In addition, you will have at your disposal the driver's information to contact him if necessary. If there is a flight delay, the driver waits for up to an hour, but depending on exceptional circumstances, he can wait longer.

As always, I hope that all this information has been useful for you to choose the most convenient transfer for your trip.
