The Newtonian mechanistic approach to medicine has definitely gone bankrupt. The assumption that experiences and feelings are not primary causal factors in illness since they can’t be quantified in material terms, has been scientifically proven as incorrect. Unfortunately, the impact of these scientific findings has not yet been integrated into the main stream health care systems and it remains up to us as health consumers to educate ourselves and seek holistic health providers.

Research done in the 70’s and 80s by Candice Pert PhD, Research Professor in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington D.C. demonstrates that “the whole system is a psychosomatic information network” and that “the flow of info throughout the whole organism is evidence that the body is the actual, natural manifestation in physical space of the mind. Intelligence is located not only in the brain but in the cells. Separating mental and emotional processes from the body is no longer valid.”[1]

Quantum theory has demonstrated that at its fundamental level matter is energy and that the human consciousness plays a central role in the dynamics of disease. This provides a scientific basis for a new understanding of the mechanism of disease and for the integration of healing approaches that address experiential aspects as central factors in the development and treatment of health conditions.

Psychological states composed of emotions and belief systems has a direct influence on what’s going on in your body and can either support or undermine your health.
The biochemical relationship between the psyche and the soma (body), particularly the relationship between emotions and cells and the intrinsic relationship between energy and matter imply that disease is a manifestation in physical form of specific emotional content stored in the tissues disrupting the both psychosomatic and the energy information systems.

In his book The Organon of Medicine Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, says that:” it is the morbidly affected vital energy alone that produces disease so that the morbid phenomena perceptible to our senses express at the same time all the internal change, that is to say, the whole morbid derangement of the internal dynamics.” [2]Emotional information is embedded in the specific location and pathological process and the patients’ subjective experience, implying that what we need is a new way to interpret the language of symptoms.

An easy way to start applying this concept is to metaphorically apply the physiological functioning of the ill- organ to an emotional state. For example: The breast is an organ of physical giving and nurturing, therefore metaphorically, disorders of the breast indicate an imbalance in the way women nurture themselves and others.

The subjective experience is important as an additional indicator of personal issues that need to be resolved. Similar health conditions create different individual experiences.

For example: a skin condition such as Psoriasis can create a variety of feelings such as shame, self disgust, rejection, guilt and so on, each directing the individual to specific unresolved issues.

The 4 main questions you need to ask yourself are:
1. Where is my condition physically located ?
2. What is the physiological functioning of the organ or body area that is inflicted?
3. What is the metaphoric emotional equivalent?
4. What am I experiencing in this disease ?

Answering these questions will give you a good idea about the specific emotional issue you need to resolve to restore health.

Emotional healing should be a central aspect of both traditional and complementary healing protocols. Clinical evidence demonstrates its power to reverse physical health conditions and also to enhance the body’s response to traditional protocols. In some cases, emotional healing makes the difference between overcoming disease or not.

R. was a patient of mine with re-occurring breast cancer. She had attended one of my workshops at the Breast Health Center at the Soroka University Medical center in Israel. She came to me because she wasn’t responding to the chemo-therapy. We identified the emotional issue that involved her relationship with her husband and started addressing it as such. After a few weeks of addressing the emotional issue her body started responding and the metastasis significantly shrunk in size. She was doing much better physically and psychologically. Then one day she came and told me that she had decided to stop the emotional work because she didn’t want to deal with confronting her husband. Her body stopped responding to the chemical treatment almost immediately and she died 6 months later.

I strongly believe that she had a much better chance of surviving or at least of prolonging life if she had completed the emotional process. So yes, emotional healing can save your life.
