A lot of the time people think to achieve goals in life, people think that they need to start chasing the latest “shiny penny”! They feel that if they don’t have the latest and greatest gadget that they are somehow slipping behind the rest of the world. With new technology evolving so quickly, we can feel like we are obliged to do so, but that’s not the case. I guarantee it.
Sure, it is great to keep up with this fast changing world, I won’t argue with you there. But there are certain areas of our life where we already have everything we need to succeed right in front of our own eyes but we don’t use them. I’m talking about items like books , DVD’s, audios, programs etc… that have now gathered dust and look like a lump of coal sitting on our shelf’s instead of the polished diamond, we originally purchased. And it can still be a polished diamond!
For instance, when I first started attending business seminars, I was going out of control with adrenaline. At seminars, when a speaker is finishing up they introduce the audience to their new and exciting program. There is always so much tension in the room. I never knew how these things worked before so I purchased an expensive program straight away. Then when the next speaker came on, I wanted what he had and so on and so forth.
I actually stopped using the original program I purchased. I was chasing the shiny penny and didn't even realize it. Instead of focusing my actions on one program at a time, I was running around looking at new ways and new ideas without using what I had in front of me.
Do you see what I am saying? I know that in everybody’s house or apartment, there is a book on their shelf that hasn't been used, touched or even taken out of the original wrapping paper! I know that perhaps a friend has loaned you something of extreme value to their personal development and wanted you to experience this as well, and maybe in the mist of this fast paced world, you have left it gather dust and forgotten about it.
So becoming successful, it isn't always about seeking new paths, it can also be about taking a minute to start where you already are and finish one thing at a time. Is there a book a friend loaned you that you haven’t read or finished reading? How about a CD they lent you? Maybe they asked you to come along to an event a couple of times? Or maybe you just need to become more open to the possibilities of considering things that you haven’t in the past for whatever reason. Maybe you can now start to view these things as potential diamonds. Sure they may appear to be old and dusty but they could just be a polished diamond with a little work.
Let me know if you read this article and found something in your house, apartment or life that can help you achieve your desires. I've been guilty of neglecting books and programs I bought in the past that I am now committing to investing my time in.
Hi my name is Gary Daly and thanks for reading my article.I am a licensed FIFA football agent and work in sales and marketing.
I have found that the skill to set and achieve goals is the single-most important thing that distinguishes successful people from the rest.
Only a small percentage of people set goals!
Those who don't set goals think that setting goals is a waste of their time. Or they mistakenly believe that they have goals ... when in fact, they have only dreams or wishes.
Still, others have goals ... but they don't have the mindset, skills or habits needed to actually achieve their goals.
Goals can transform your life. Peoples success boils down to one thing: The ability to set and achieve goals.
