In deciding to review past resolutions, intentions or goals, means we are continuously willing to keep moving forward and challenge ourselves to be positive. We are determined to overcome whatever issue that we would like to resolve. If overeating, smoking, drinking, excess internet gaming, etc. are issues that you would like to really overcome, you need to decide for yourself that you would like to be DONE with holding onto these habits .

In order to achieve our goals, we have to be willing to examine our thinking, and correct what we are holding in mind. Most people that hold onto negative habits actually have one or more programs (of wanting approval, wanting control or wanting to be safe/secure), running in relation to their habit. Realistically a habit is just another means of protecting ourselves with fear. So if you notice this is something that you are doing, please catch this and change your focus. Guilt and shame are also negative ways of motivating our self to let go of an unwanted habit. The suggestion is to first simply notice what you are holding in mind in relation to letting go of an unwanted habit. If you are fixated on the problem, the problem will remain. However, if you decide to be positively resolved about any situation, you will find the means to work through any and all discomfort to achieve what you would really like to experience.

Negative habits impair our ability to focus clearly. And yet it appears that on some level we may gain a perceived level of temporary satisfaction from engaging in negative habits (i.e. smoking, drinking, etc.). In reality negative habits are just a means of avoidance and escape. The issue of hanging onto negative habits appears to be for the purpose of social enjoyment, although in actuality we hold onto negative habits mainly to avoid facing our feelings. If we look at issues related to holding onto negative habits more closely, we may actually see that there are things we don’t like about these activities. For example, if we are complaining about cost, time, etc., we are also disapproving of the activity and our involvement with the activity on a very deep an unconscious level. Disapproval is only capable of further perpetuating a negative reality because disapproval is focusing on what is wrong. As with any unwanted habit, negative habits only remain because we are holding onto stories mostly related to fear or suffering.

Fear is simply an emotion related to limited beliefs, reasons or excuses directly related to our past decisions. Every negative habit is showing us some level of our own attachment and aversion issues. Take a moment as see if you agree that habits such as alcohol, tobacco, excessive gaming/shopping, etc. are used as a means of seeking comfort or providing distraction. On some level, we believe having a cocktail or cigarette is capable of fixing what is out of alignment or causing us to feel uncomfortable. The truth of the matter as related to our perception regarding unwanted habits is that we are often feeling unhappy or discouraged; because the problem remained long after the cigarette or cocktail was consumed and therefore we feel even more awkward. Perhaps you’ll also agree that we use negative vices or perceptions as a mechanism of separation.

In order for us to overcome any unwanted habit, we need to first decide to move towards being in the energy of Courageousness, Acceptance, or Peace . Sometimes because we have been on automatic for a long time, when we begin dealing with goals related to unwanted habits (such as overeating, smoking, etc.), our initial tendency is to resist making changes. If you notice you are resisting making changes, simply become aware that you are resisting. Remember, whatever we resist, will continue to persist. By acknowledging the resistance as simply a limited belief, allows us to also decide to move towards remaining calm and being more positive. When we are feeling calm and positive, it also helps us to make better decisions. Just by observing your feelings, creates a positive shift in your awareness.

You’ll notice that by deciding to have a peaceful and positive resolution with a perceived problem or unwanted habit, is offering you a better pathway to consider. You can continue to struggle or you can decide to move into higher energy, discriminate, and decide to be free from holding onto unwanted situations or habits. Choosing to be free of unwanted habits, is deciding that you CAN achieve your goals. By making the decision to be positively resolved with negative habits, allows you to keep moving forward towards fulfillment and resolution. It is also choosing mastery over misery.

Why not just strengthen your intention, and DECIDE to be resolved with negative habits so that you can feel better about yourself at all times! You can decide to keep unwanted habits or you can let them go. What do you decide?
