In the past, actors did most of their talking in the films that they were in, and there would have been what they said in interviews, for instance. This would have related to the talk shows that they were on and the magazines that they were featured in.

Other than these options, the people who acted for a living wouldn’t have had the platform to say anything else. But while they wouldn’t have said a lot, it could be said that this had a positive effect on their image.

The Mystique

For one thing, it would have been easy for people to perceive them as being different to them. And, even if they were not very intelligent, it would have been easier for them to hide this.

It is often said familiarity breeds contempt, and so it would have been a lot harder for people to get fed up with an actor. The fact they rarely saw them would have caused them to wonder what these people were actually like.

The Main Option

Therefore, the best place to see them would be to watch a film, as there wouldn’t have been much else for them to pay attention to. This could mean that they had to wait at least a year before they could get their next dose of their favourite actor.

And when it came to how people typically viewed an actor, it would have largely been the result of the roles they had played. So, if an actor was only in action films, they would have been seen as tough.

An Archetype

This was then not a person who acted tough; this would have been someone who was tough. Through identifying with an actor in this way, it would have allowed plenty of people to experience what they had not yet developed within themselves.

Watching a film would then not have just been something that simply entertained someone, it would have been something that allowed them to feel empowered. The role an actor played would have been internalised and integrated into their own personality.

Protection

Now, if one was to see this actor all the time or if they were always on TV, they could soon have a different perspective of them. As a result of this, they might no longer have the same effect on them.

It might then be necessary for them to find another actor to look up to, and the other actor could end up being cast aside. Fortunately, the amount of exposure they received would have generally protected their image.

A Big Difference

However, the internet has changed all this, and one can now hear from an actor more or less every day. Not only can they find out about what is taking place in their career, they can also hear about other areas of their life.

This could have a positive effect on them and cause them to elevate the actor to an even higher position, or it could cause them to think about why they even looked up to them in the first place. One could come to see that they are nothing like the person they play in their films.

Not a Surprise

One way of looking at this would be to say that this kind of experience is to be expected, and this is because they are actors after all. How they come across in each film and what they say is often the result of what they have learned from someone else.

And when it comes down to how they come across in the real world, there is no guarantee that this is who they really are. Instead, this could be the result of what they have picked up from each role they have played; they can then be completely disconnected from their true self and simply play a role in their everyday life.

A Number of Topics

If an actor was to share their views on what is taking place when it comes to sports or even food, it is unlikely to have much of an effect on others. Yet, if they were to talk about politics, this is not going to be the case.

Naturally, there will be people who think what they say is wonderful, and they will have their full support. Due to what they say, there are going to be a number of people who raise them even higher.

The Opposite Reaction

There will also be other people who hear what they have to say and start to think about why they would say something like this. The people who exist to entertain them are then going to be trying to tell them how they should live their life.

But while they could simply be sharing their views, they could come across as though they are the only owns who know what they are talking about. The people who go along with them are then going to be seen as doing the right thing and, the ones that don’t, are going to be looked down upon.

Completely Convinced

These actors are then going to be certain that they know what they are talking about, and the people who have opposing views are going to be the ones who need to educate themselves. Nevertheless, just because an actor has this outlook, it doesn’t mean that they are as informed as they think they are.

But even if they are informed, talking down to the people who pay their wages is clearly not a good idea. For example, if one had their own business, they wouldn’t try to tell their customers who they should vote for; if they did, they would soon find somewhere else.

Conclusion

It could be said that the reason that a lot of actors don’t realise this is because they are out of touch with reality. Based on how they experience life, they don’t know what it is like to life in the real world.

There is also the chance that it is not their circumstances that stop them from being able to empathise with others and to see that the way they view the world is not the only way to view it; if it was, all actors would behave in the same way. What it can show is that they are not as bright as they think they are.
