Eye cancer awareness is very important to keep away from malignant infection in eyes. Awareness about eye cancer also helps to understand root eye cancer causes and prime eye cancer symptoms and prompts patient to undergo apt and efficient eye cancer treatment at right time.

Eye Cancer Awareness – Aspects and Importance

Eye cancer is a severe infection in eyes and may lead to permanent damage to some of the major areas within the scope of eye region. In the initial eye cancer stages, tumor development can be benign in nature. Benign tumors are generally of non-cancerous nature and cause very little damage to healthy cells and tissues. Such tumors appear almost similar as cancerous ones but are of very low intensity. They can be eliminate by normal medication or eye cancer surgery and show very less chances of redevelopment. They do not metastasize but can cause obstruction in normal blood flow to eyes as they are present in form of lumps.

Benign tumors have high chances of turning cancerous in later stages and can cause serious eye disorders. In the initial stages, they may cause partial loss of vision or internal bleeding in eyes which may then lead to complete vision loss if not eliminated well in time. Cancerous tumors are dangerous than benign ones because they have high tendency to metastasize and also create serious obstructions in normal cell-growth process.

Presence of cancerous tumors causes severe and permanent damage to functional tissues and also leads to irritation or uneasiness among normal cells present in the region. This instigates abnormal and uncontrollable growth of cells and paves way for spread of cancerous infection in the region. Cancer of eye can develop in both internal and external areas and may damage some of the vital regions like eyelids, orbit, optic nerves, eye lens, retina, iris or cornea. The disorder may further spread to other areas of head and neck and can also infect lungs or breast in long-run leading to severe decrease in eye cancer life expectancy with respect to the victim.

Type and origin of cancer cells is a major aspect to be considered in eye cancer awareness. Most forms of eye cancer are of secondary type. In this form, the cancer cells develop in various areas like breast, lungs, head and neck areas, skin, blood, colon, and bone marrow. Cancer cells formed in these regions reach eyes after a certain time and cause cancerous growth in the region. Primary eye cancer (tumors originate in eye region and then spread to other region) is comparatively less common and can be rectified easily in comparison to secondary one.

Eye cancer causes and eye cancer symptoms play a major part in awareness about the disorder. Frequent exposure to UV (ultraviolet) rays should be avoided and any kind of infection, injury or pain in eyes should be diagnosed urgently. Retinoblastoma is the most common eye cancer in children while adults are mostly infected by a type of eye cancer called uveal melanoma. Medulloepithelioma and ciliary body melanoma are some other forms of eye cancer.

Eye cancer can be treated in various ways. Eye cancer surgery is the most common type of eye cancer therapy and can be very effective in initial stages. Metastatic cancer of eye can be treated by some stern methods like therapy by radiation or chemotherapy. Laser treatment is also useful in controlling tumors.

Eye cancer awareness focuses primarily on medical aspects of the disorder. But non-medical aspects like proper health and immune system, good eye care, regular consumption of fresh vegetables, salads and fruits, and preliminary eye exercises also play a significant role.
