Spring cleaning can bring a tear to most parents eyes. What does it take to rally against all the dirt, grime and clutter to assure you keep your sanity in check afterwards?
You want to make sure that you have no distractions and can give your attention to the task at hand. It is important to declutter the room first. Once this is done work from left to right, top to bottom. This will ensure that nothing was missed. The use of a cleaning caddy with all the supplies you will need is a great way to keep the cleaning moving as quickly as possible.
You will not need an abundance of cleaning supplies. Although, I must admit that in the past I have been guilty of having a closet full of cleaners. First you will need magic erasers. These are great for removing scuff marks and other trouble spots. If you have children like I do I am sure you will have plenty of these. They also do a good job and general regular cleaning and the best part is you don't need any additional cleaning supplies with them, just water.
The next item you will need is a microfiber cloth. A green alternative to using paper products. It is also more effective than a feather duster since these just spread the dust around instead of catching it. If a cleaning product is needed, try to use a multi-purpose, neutral cleaner. A little tip that I have found works wonders on hardwood floors is equal parts of vinegar and distilled water. Don't be scared, once the floor dries the vinegar smell will disappear. Straight vinegar is also great for cleaning mirrors and windows.
A good vacuum is essential to finish the cleaning process. You will want to use one that has a HEPA filter. Commercial grade vacuums will be your best investment, but if it is not in your budget make sure that you choose a vacuum with suitable attachments for all floor surfaces instead of using a broom.
A great cleaner for kitchens and bathrooms are Clorox wipes. They will extend the life of a deep clean. Don't forget about behind the grate at the bottom of your refrigerator and stove. If you have children and pets , you will be amazed about what is behind there.
In conclusion, don't overwhelm yourself with the whole house. Also, don't feel like it all has to be done in one day. That is overwhelming for anyone.
