Having a set of pearly white teeth is one of the most basic steps towards looking attractive and professional. However, it is often expensive and tedious to get your teeth professionally whitened. But did you know there are many home remedies which can help you out?

1. Salt

Salt is something everyone has in their kitchen and it can help whiten your teeth. Before the invention of toothpaste, people actually used salt to clean their teeth. Salt not only cleans and whitens your teeth, but also restores any mineral content in your teeth that has been lost. Other than swapping your toothpaste out for salt, you can also clean your teeth with a mixture of salt and charcoal, or salt and baking soda. Keep in mind not to brush too roughly, as the texture of salt may be harsh on your gums and enamel.

2. Lemon

Most people are aware that lemons are highly acidic. However, did you know that this acid can actually eliminate yellow teeth? All you need to do is concoct a mixture of salt and a few drops of lemon juice. After applying this mixture on your teeth, massage it into your teeth and gums. You can leave the mixture on for a couple of minutes before rinsing it off. For best effects, try this twice a day! You should be able to witness whiter teeth within two weeks.

3. Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is a common ingredient found in professional whitening kits. You can simply make your own concoction of baking soda with hydrogen peroxide and use it to brush your teeth. If you experience any tooth sensitivity, stop immediately and try another method.

4. Strawberries

Strawberries actually contain vitamin C which helps to whiten teeth. To whiten your teeth, you can mash a few strawberries and apply the paste on your teeth twice a day. An alternative would be to smash the pulp of one strawberry, then mix the pulp with half a teaspoon of baking soda. Proceed to apply this paste onto your teeth and leave it on for a few minutes. After waiting, rinse and brush with toothpaste.

5. Orange Peel

Like strawberries, oranges also contain vitamin C. However, the peel of an orange contains an additional element of calcium. Simply rubbing an orange peel on your teeth every night before sleeping can help whiten your teeth, as the vitamin C and calcium can eliminate bacteria and microorganisms in your mouth overnight. Alternatively, if you are not able to get orange peels, dried orange peel powder is another option.

6. Baking Soda

Baking soda is an excellent combatant against yellow teeth and there are some ways you can incorporate it into your routine, such as:

• Mix ¼ teaspoon of baking soda into your toothpaste, use it to brush your teeth and rinse with warm water. This method can be used up to two times a week.

• As mentioned earlier, baking soda can be mixed with hydrogen peroxide to form a paste. If you are unable to find hydrogen peroxide, you can also combine baking soda with white vinegar or lemon juice.

• If you are afraid that baking soda might be too harsh on your teeth, you can dilute baking soda and brush gently with the solution for about two minutes. You can do this twice within one week and then progress to once every two weeks.
