Freedom means liberation

In the spiritual sense, it means to be completely free - freedom from all worldly miseries!

Becoming Free from Desires

The Enlightened One explains:

Desires are of two types:

1. One is the rising desire,2. Another is the setting desire.

Just like the Sun is rising and setting...

The rising desires always burn you, whereas setting desires don’t

A desire which when starts, gives you burning till you don’t achieve that. You are restless till you don’t achieve that. That desire is mad desire. That is the root cause of the creation of your karmas (which gives rise to) your world and the other things. (So such desires create bondages.)

And the setting desires are when the desires are coming (arising within), but they don’t burn you. Whether that desire is fulfilled or not, doesn’t make a difference.

The setting desires will be there till your body is there, but the rising desires - we can stop them, we can finish them just by awakening the Soul. The rising desires are dangerous. And one can live without these rising desires; the setting desires are enough for your living.

Suffering in desire is because of ego, where there is no ego, there is no suffering.

In rising desire, ego is there. In setting desire, there is no ego. And still all the work, the day-to-day life, duties, this all will be going on.

For example, in a drama, the actor is doing all the acting – a husband’s acting, a father’s acting, a son’s acting, the King’s acting. He is doing everything; sometimes he is doing acting of crying in tragedy scenes, sometimes in comedy scenes - all sorts of acting is there. The actor is playing all roles, but throughout the acting, he is aware that, ‘I am not King, I am not father, I am not son. In reality, I am not anything in this drama. This is all temporary for two hours. In reality, I am Victor, I am not King.’

Same way, here also, you play all the roles (in the worldly life), but inside, you are aware that, ‘I am not Victor, I am pure Soul. All desires are with Victor.’ Then, these desires are like in a drama; You are not after any desire. It happens in you spontaneously and automatically.

Self-realization resolves all desires

The root of desire is ignorance of the Self. Ignorance of the Self is the greatest bondage of all. And therefore, Self-Realization leads us to freedom, the ultimate liberation.

All scriptures unanimously proclaim, ‘If you desire to realize the Self, go to a Gnani, the Enlightened One.’The enlightened can kindle light in others. Gnani is the perfect Self-Realized in the human form, who has the power to liberate others. He is, therefore, the Liberator and the Saviour!!!

After Self-Realization, desires that have been charged already in the past shall continue to manifest (in the form of setting desires). However, no more charging of new desires (the rising desires) takes place. And following the teachings of Gnani, you will then attain the state where whatever is to come your way, let it come. If it comes, that is fine and if it does not, that is fine also. You feel free and liberated!

Hence, have an intense desire to meet the Gnani, the Liberation Incarnate, and from Him attain the Soul, which is an abode of freedom and bliss.

Author's Bio:

Ambalal M. Patel was a civil contractor by profession. In June 1958, spontaneous Self-Realization occurred within Ambalal M. Patel. From this point on, Ambalal became a Gnani Purush, and the Lord that manifested within him became known as Dada Bhagwan. A Gnani Purush is One who has realized the Self and is able to help others do the same. Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan used to go from town to town and country-to-country to give satsang (spiritual discourse) and impart the knowledge of the Self, as well as knowledge of harmonious worldly interactions to everyone who came to meet him. This spiritual science, known as Akram Vignan, is the step-less path to Self-realization.
