The Power of Reflexology Can Change Your Life

In these stressful and uncertain times, isn’t it comforting to know that there’s a centuries-old practice that can be enormously therapeutic? It’s called Reflexology .

You’ve probably heard about Reflexology , but perhaps you’re not exactly sure what it entails. Reflexology, according to internationally renowned practitioner Laura Norman, is “an art and a science that is based on the principle that there are reflex points and areas in the ears, hands and, especially, the feet that correspond to every gland, organ and part of the body. By skillful stimulation of these areas and points with hand, finger and thumb techniques, the body systems are facilitated to greater balance.”

Norman has been a Reflexologist for 38 years and has offices in New York City and Delray Beach. She authored the best-selling book Feet First: A Guide To Foot Reflexology, which has been published in several languages and sold nearly half a million copies worldwide. “There are so many moving, joyful, miraculous moments I have experienced through the years in seeing how Reflexology truly focuses and empowers people’s lives,” she says.

Those who have personally experienced Reflexology’s powers include entertainment personality Regis Philbin, who says that a session with Laura helped him pass painful kidney stones without the need for invasive surgery; and Sharon, a woman from St. Petersburg, who wrote a moving letter to Laura: “Your book was heaven-sent. My younger sister suffers daily with diabetes. She is blind and almost bedridden. I used the techniques in your book Feet First on her last night. It was her first full night of sleep in many years. … She is still feeling better today. She cannot stop talking about it.”

Norman recently received a call from a man living across the country. He had tracked her down to thank her for writing her book on Reflexology. He told her, “My sister was in a near fatal accident and was placed in intensive care, in a coma and on a respirator. The doctors did not know if she would survive or come out of the coma. They told me that if she did, she would probably have to stay on the respirator. I happened to have bought the book, and worked faithfully on my sister’s feet every day, if only for a few minutes. My sister did come out of the coma … and I called today because they took her off the respirator.”

So many people have seen these types of results, in fact, that they are clamoring to learn how to do it themselves. To satisfy this demand, Laura developed a highly successful training series in her distinctive techniques, the Laura NormanSM Method of Reflexology. “Students in our programs come from all walks of life, from diverse professions, and from various cultures,” she says. “They are drawn to this work by an awareness and appreciation that there is something special and powerful about the feet.”

Seeing the numbers of health-care professionals, artists, educators, and even members of the general public who have taken her courses, it is clear there is something unique about Reflexology. People who participate in Laura’s program experience profound changes in their own lives, and in the lives of those they touch. Linda is a mother who came to the class because she was looking for a new way to support and nurture her family, and especially her child who was asthmatic. Using the skills she learned in the Laura NormanSM Method of Reflexology, Linda has been able to strengthen the bonds within her family. And Linda is convinced she has contributed greatly to alleviating her child’s asthma symptoms. Mary was a successful corporate VP who longed for career that was more personally rewarding. She completed the program, went on to massage school, and now has a thriving full-time practice providing nurturing health care to others. “Laura’s program gave me the confidence to learn new skills and envision a new outcome for my life’s work,” she says.

Individuals who have had concerns over English as their second language, or who were unsure of their ability to acquire new skills, have found that through the careful attention of the instructors, excellent visual aids, and the supportive environment, they can learn and practice this exciting and empowering new set of skills with ease and confidence. Al, who came from Europe, was so frightened when he started the class that he had his wife come with him the first day. “I was close to 60, and starting something new like this was very intimidating for me,” he says. Certified for a few years now, he owns a successful practice; one client – a corporate executive – even has him picked up in a limousine for private Reflexology sessions!

Facilitating personal growth is one of the keys to Laura’s approach with this extraordinary form of touch. “An important part of health and well-being is the adventure of moving forward in our lives,” Laura notes. “Our feet transport us. Our purpose is to move, learn, develop and allow life to reveal itself through us one step at a time. That’s what transformation through Reflexology is all about.”
