For many individuals it is a life long quest to achieve financial security, career and business success. As a Senior Vice President for a Fortune 500 Firm and a business coach , I have worked with, guided and mentored hundreds of business leaders.

What has shocked me the most over the years has been witnessing how mindset affects business results. It seems counter intuitive that something so intangible and allusive could be the determining factor in success and yet it is the profound driving factor.

I see it in my clients and the business leaders I manage. You can give the same strategy, tools, resources and plan to two similarly talented individuals and yield wildly different results. Your actions and behavior make success possible, but your mindset of belief, faith and abundance make the difference between possibility and actuality.

An abundance mindset affects every area of life. When it comes to career and business success, creating extraordinary results begins first in the interior world and then materializes in the outer world. The book that completely changed my understanding of this concept is “Think and Grow Rich”, by Napoleon Hill. I had no idea how much control we have to shape our everyday experiences. It is the assumption of the positive and the power of imagination that takes a spark of talent and hard work and turns it into a raging unstoppable fire.

So how does this concept play out in the every day lives of business owners and executives? How do you get started? The first step I would take is get a book about the power of intention or mindset, there are so many great resources available from people like Wayne Dyer that can introduce you to a whole new way of life and thinking. This will give you a foundation to build on. The next step is to consciously change your thought stream. Here are some examples.

1. When you think about the next set of objectives you roll out to your team it is the difference between setting a goal that gets you by and setting objectives that you would consider extraordinary, if achieved. By allowing this new set of standards into your life you have already opened up the possibility for more.
2. On a daily basis it is about coming from a place of imagination and creativity , doing what has never been done. Take a look at what you are doing each day, are you making each decision with intention and decision or do you just do what you do by default. Question yourself on why you do what you do and is there a better way? Do you manage your team or your company based on what you have to do or what you would do if you were really going for it? It's about reshaping your mentality to think about the ideal and then setting a plan that serves that outcome every step of the way. You don't need to know how you will get to your ideal dream goals, but you do need to believe that it is possible and act congruently.
3. Assume the best about and from people. Whether it is the people you report to, your employees, colleagues, etc. People will meet your expectations, so expect the best. Project your confidence, belief and support of them, and many times you will be surprised in a positive way by the response you get. Rather than worrying and stressing about hitting your numbers for the month focus on what you will do to celebrate when you exceed them.

It is this way of thinking, believing and acting that helped me break every record in my company's history. This is the primary difference between the hundred of executives I have seen stay stagnant, while I rose to be promoted 7 times in 8 years. It is this type of support and belief in my team that brought out the best in them and allowed them to follow in my footsteps.

When it comes to abundance and your career the age-old saying "It's all in your head,” says it best. In closing a few ways that you can express an abundance mindset right away include written and verbal communication, your words, facial expressions, body language and more.

Incorporating words such as belief, faith, confidence, certain, optimistic, love, peace , support and freedom, welcome abundance into your life. Think about the language you use most often, do the words you use sound like you are expecting miracles or hoping to avoid disaster? Language has a profound impact, whether written or verbal and it is something you can change in an instant.

Approximately 94% of communication is non-verbal. Body language and facial expression communicate immediately whether or not you are open, warm, happy, trustworthy and more. The miracle in abundance, like gratitude , is that in embodying an abundance mindset now, we prepare and allow ourselves to receive more in our lives.

Take action today to welcome and begin creating the things you dream of for your life!
