Testosterone is the key hormone that is responsible for men’s optimal health.

Biologically, it’s an androgenic  male sex hormone that is primarily produced in  men testicles. This hormone plays an essential role in the development of male growth and masculine characteristics.

Low Testosterone with Age

It is not necessary that only middle-aged or older men can experience low testosterone levels. It has been seen that even men under 30 also experience low testosterone levels.

In Men

Testosterone level peaks during adolescence and early adulthood. But, these levels typically decline by about 1 % each year, starting around age 30 or some may experience it at a younger age.

Low testosterone levels are associated with a variety of symptoms, including erectile dysfunction, infertility, muscle mass loss, fat gain, balding, increased breast size, aging , sleep disturbances, and low sex drive.

What causes low testosterone levels?

There are various factors that may lead to low testosterone.

Along with the various factors, the most  notable is obesity , in which fat cells enhance the conversion of  testosterone to estrogen.

Diseases such as  diabetes, renal disease COPD high blood pressure,  and lifestyles that include smoking and drug abuse also contribute to low-testosterone

Here are some of the contributing factors are listed below:

  • High cholesterol levels & blood pressure
  • Being overweight or obese
  • Excessive intake of alcohol
  • Using anabolic steroids
  • Certain medications in excess such as steroids and opiates
  • Some diseases like diabetes, liver disease, or AIDS
