The Best Materials for the Job

We also understand that not all pressurized substances are the same. Under various pressures, various substances can behave very differently on a chemical level. Combine this with the fact that materials can be vastly different even at normal atmospheric pressure, and you have a complicated scenario when it comes to materials used in the manufacture of these vessels.

This means that you need to choose the appropriate vessel for the substances you wish to contain, as pressurized and highly corrosive substances may rapidly compromise, to a very dangerous level, inappropriate vessels not designed to withstand the corrosive nature of said substances.

Vessel manufacturers that are worth anything will go out of their way to recommend the appropriate pressure vessels for the substances you wish to contain, and at the levels of pressure with which you wish to contain them. This is very serious, as what may seem like a perfectly stable and well-engineered vessel may prove to be extremely weak and insufficient depending on level of pressure and type of substance being contained.

Beware of Climate

Climate is also a major factor. Ambient pressure changes depending on air temperature, the nature of the pressure vessel material can change due to temperature, and the resistance to pressurization may vary with different substances depending on surrounding temperature as well. Amount of direct sunlight can also affect this. Make sure that your pressure vessel manufacturer is aware of the climate in which your vessel will be used to just as much detail as they are aware of the substance you wish to contain and the pressure at which you wish to contain it.

We cannot emphasize how dangerous the use of the incorrect vessel for climate, pressure and substance can be. Lives are at stake with this, and a compromised vessel can sometimes not show signs of weakening until it’s far too late. These can catch you off guard, seemingly rupturing out of nowhere.
