Toxins Build up in our body on a daily basis. Naturally occurring toxins, free radicals, synthetic chemicals, alcohol, cigarettes, prescription drugs, depleted body secretions and hormones all add up to load our bodies with toxins that can stress not only our internal systems but also our skin, hair and nails.

Undergoing a Detox program three or four times a year can provide a great deal of benefit to our skin. Detox programs can assist with flushing many toxins from our system but they are not a license to live a toxic lifestyle with a “Detox” back up.

In addition to regular cleansing of our internal body we should maintain a regular external cleanse of our skin through cleansing and exfoliation. Using steam baths before cleansing and exfoliating can open up our pores even more for an enhanced cleansing.

Regular exercise is also an important part of maintaining a healthy skin. When the body sweats it is releasing toxins. Regular exercise also helps to tone and relax the skin.

Externally and specifically for the skin, steam baths are excellent. A simple steam bath for the face can be achieved by filling a bowl with hot water and leaning over the bowl with a towel draped over your head to help trap and direct the steam on the face. Aromatherapy oils can be added for calming or soothing effects.

Organic Exfoliating can be as simple as bathing in a Sea Salt bath or scrubbing with commercially available organic exfoliant scrub . Exfoliating helps to remove the rough and dull appearance caused by a build up of dead skin cells. Exfoliating the surface of the skin promotes a glowing, youthful looking skin.

Various minerals are used in exfoliant to gently abraise and remove dead skin cells and opening pores.

Any internal or skin detoxification program you undertake should ensure an organic approach. It is also important to ensure medical advice when beginning any detox program. Any medications you use regularly should stay your priority.

I am not a fan of the commercially available Detox programs on the market as such I will not comment on their use. Using antioxidant supplements or super food’s can be good, but they should not replace a regular diet .

The best internal Detox you can do is gradually increase your intake of filtered water and simply reduce your intake of alcohol, cigarettes and fatty foods.

Prevention is always better than cure . The same applies not only to our body but our skin as well. Using Chemical toxins on your skin through skin care products and make up will lead to greater skin problems as you age.
