The NBA finally announced the restart of the 2019-20 season at the end of July. As much as I have clearly stated my interest in the Portland Trail Blazers several times previously, I am at best lukewarm about the continuation of a season of basketball that starts after the 4th of July.

Can anyone remember when basketball was a winter sport?
The recent global events and assault upon humanity have caused me, like many, to reevaluate priorities and choose to focus life in new directions. Throughout the global community people are troubled about things as they are happening today. No matter what your faith, social viewpoint or ethnic origin, it is clear that something is wrong. Following the numerology of recent events reveals a trend of disconcerting consciousness that I have followed for decades, but had never put together by the numbers.

The clue is in the number 25. Years ago I dubbed it the John Belushi number after doing his chart. I discovered that it appeared in the names of many actors and people associated with the entertainment industry. Over the years I found it often related to adverse social attitude , overindulgence, rebellion, loss of control, delusion and escapist behavior in many forms.

It makes sense with actors since many come from severely abusive or dysfunctional life experiences and can “act out” their anger or violence or reactions with acceptance and often get paid well in the process. In fact, some of the most honored and versatile prove to have the most troubled, disturbed and even pathological predilections. As an interesting side note, Hollywood also has a 25.

In social context the number 25 is often associated with unrest, fantasy, delusion, make believe, public relations, propaganda, misinformation and escapism. While contemplating coronavirus ( see numerology of coronavirus article posted below) impact and the NBA season, I came across some most revealing configurations. The words sport, entertainment and coronavirus all have the number 25 included. What might that all mean?

If you look at the numbers of sport at its best reveals the uniqueness of the individual and desire for perfection. Also contributions offered from the diversity of humanity reflected in the combinations and the spirit of camaraderie and fair play stemming from appreciation of effort and the emotional investment that all of the sporting family recognize.

Watching professional sports over the decades one sees the slow disappearance of the sport and trend toward the business of entertainment and money. An NBA game has become like a three ring circus with blaring sound systems and never ending side shows and games along with expensive choices of concessions, parking, and souvenirs. The evening sometimes appears to be designed for those who are attention deficient since there is hardly a quiet moment for reflection.

Player’s with oft flawed character are promoted as demigod like idols and immortals. Good talent is to be appreciated, but it seems we should expect a lot from someone being paid more to give us one nights entertainment than most of the fans make in a year. The pressure and media hyped prestige has led to more and more taunting, pea cocking, posturing and pretense than the once cherished chivalry and fair play. Maybe there is a little less in the NBA than some of the other sports .

Ownership has become a pastime of pride and ego indulgence for the rich. Pro sports seem to become an increasingly inflated event and sensationalized form of escapism that can serve to distract attention of the masses away from troubling issues and agendas that are not always good for their well being. One has to wonder why these guys are out playing sweat, breath and body against each other while we are mandated to sit at home wearing masks which clearly disrupts intimacy and communication with our loved one, family member or friend.

It was refreshing to hear Michael Porter Jr. express some insightful investigative thinking rather than spouting the preferred spin from the league player’s manual. It was also interesting to note that he was soon given a “school principle” lecture from management. Controlled people are not supposed to question or investigate matters going on around them. It can cause awareness, revelation, and discovery.

During the months that the NBA season was being coronavirus delayed, I found myself spending free time exploring and investigating new facets of life with rich and rewarding consequences. I realized that the time away from the game has allowed me to appreciate other endeavors of life that have far greater meaning.

I will still watch an occasional game and get caught up in the adrenaline rush of a close scoring competitive match. However, it now receives a reduced amount of my time and investment as other forms of social activity and community participation become priority.

A person can benefit from occasionally slipping into the world of fantasy and enjoying it, but a steady diet can be disrupting to the soul. Perhaps there are others out there that have been experiencing similar reactions, but might not have put it into words or thoughts.
