There are things we do out of habit and routine that if we didn’t do them we wouldn’t feel right all day. We brush our get out of bed, brush our teeth, eat about three meals a day, etc. and skipping any part of our routine would not seem natural. These habits are just a part of life which we have created by repeating them daily.

There are other things we should do that need to become a part of life as well. In order to serve God as He wants us to, we have to create a routine in our life which is pleasing to Him. When we get out of bed, we need to acknowledge Him and talk to Him. When we get ready in the morning, we need to praise Him. When we eat we need to thank Him. Our plans need to be His plans.

Jeremiah 29:11 “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’”

There are many guidelines God has put before us that we tend to overlook daily which we really do need to include so they become routine for us. They need to become a part of our life so we are not apart from God. These routines we need in our life do not need to become so habitual, however, that we forget the importance of them. When we do remember Him in all we do, He will take care of us.

Philippians 4:19 “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”

While brushing our teeth and getting ready for the day prepares us for our outward appearance, the things we do for God will prepare us for our inward appearance. When we take time to spend with God each day, we will see a change in us that others will see as well. We can make God more than just a part of life. We can allow God to be all of our life.

When we go through the routine God wants us to have, we will find the actions we take will not seem as trivial as brushing our teeth. When we pray with the intensity He wants us to pray and really meditate on His word, we will find our daily actions will become His daily actions and will motivate us to do more. We will find these actions will inspire us to want to make a difference in the lives of others.

God should be our morning, noon and night. He should be put first in all actions we take. God needs to be who we think about when we first get up, who guides us through the day and who we talk to as we go to sleep. When we put God first, He will give us more to do than our mundane tasks and routines. God will give us excitement and desire to do His will.

We need to move past just doing the things we believe are a part of life. We need to allow God to work in our lives so every action we take is what He wants us to take. Our new routines should be to not take any actions before checking with Him first. Our decisions should be His decisions. Our words should be His words. We need to seek His will in all we do so we know what to do next.

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

The daily routines we have to do to take care of our outward appearance should be done as just a part of our life. However, the actions we take for Christ should be what matters. Our sights should be set on where God wants us to go while we are here on this earth. Our focus should be on what He wants us to do. We are no longer part of the world when we put our focus on God. He will then become the part of our life that will allow us to make a difference.

Colossians 3:1-3 “Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.”
