Is Our Brain in Conflict?

No trick question – Professor Emmanuel Donchin, University of Illinois says,
“99% of cognitive activity may be NonConscious.” Weird? Google it. His researchstands for our Conscious (cognitive-thinking brain) is subordinate to our
NonConscious brain by a country mile. Please follow me because it matters.

We are talking about the difference between our Conscious (logical, reasoning,
planning) Left-Hemisphere, and our spatial, pattern recognition, imaginingRight-Hemisphere. Unless you give it your Attention and Concentrate, you are
operating on autopilot.

Left And Right Brain

The key structure of our left Brain is our PFC – Prefrontal Cortex. Thinking, organizing, and analyzing, together with synthesizing (combining) and summarizing. All meaning, speech, reading and writing are left-brain capacities.

Let me be more specific: our right brain consists of our Midbrain and Brainstem. It organizes our emotions and instincts while operating our Autonomic Nervous System - the automatic (autopilot) functions of body-mind.

Which brain controls our heartbeat, blood circulation, vision, auditory and kinesthetic (sense of touch, tactile), respiration and metabolism? Ans. Right Brain.

Who Cares

Get this: our Conscious Brain has a broadband function (capacity) of 16 to 60 bits of information per second. Our non-verbal NonConscious Brain uses 11 million bits of information per second. Some scientists say – Consciousness equals 2 millions bits of info per sec, while NonConscious runs 4 Billion bits of information per second.

Okay, the question we present is how can we gain the cooperation of our powerful
right (Non-Consciousness) brain? Our beliefs, attitudes and moods are empoweredby our right brain. What about decisions, behaviors, motivation and judgments?

Our right brain is dominant. It goes against all we are taught and see around us, butit is like denying Gravity.

Our culture is a left-brain entity, which includes science, math and all our engineering and technology. Education ignores our right brain unless you are an artist, actor or musician. Your body and mind, our lives and relationships are allright brain dominant.

W.A.B.A

Four elements of reinforcing and conditioning our Right Brain:

a) WRITE: type a mission statement of your goals and desires on a single sheet of
paper. Write as if you are in December 4, 2010 and sending a detailed email to yourself back in December 4, 2009. Write of your Mental Movies of the fulfillment of all your goals and dreams set in 2009. Be agonizingly specific.

When you type you empower three (3) major senses: vision-auditory-kinesthetic. How? You hear the words you type in your Primary VisualCortex, see the words appear in your Primary Visual Cortex, feel the
emotions and sense of touch in your Temporal Cortex (parietal lobe).

b) ALOUD: read aloud (not silently) you Letter once a day for 21 days. That is how long it takes to condition your NonConscious mind.

The reading should not be race for the door, it should take about two-minutes and contain all the emotions and feelings about your goals forschool, career, and relationships. It you drone, you lose.

c) BELIEF: how do you feel when someone tells you a whopper? How do you know it is a tall tale? Life experience, their facial expression, tone and volume of their voice, and general core knowledge, right?

You feel insulted? Most times you know a lie by your intuition (gut
reaction), which is a right brain skill. What about when you discover a new and important belief, how do you feel?

Fact: beliefs excite Dopamine – the pleasure neurotransmitter. It is released when we experience a true BELIEF. We feel a surge of joy and happiness with each new belief. Not just words, but emotions attached to these ideas.

When you write (type) the letter enumerating your goals and accomplishments you must believe each one. Belief is the gasoline that
drives your mental car for personal competency and success. No jerky
exaggerations like winning the Lotto for 126 million.

Belief is a key ingredient in creating Attention, Concentration and Purpose in your activities. No whoppers, just successful activities.

d) Action: Take small actions toward your goals. We do not wait for a miracle; we take the steps toward our goals. How do you know the right steps? Ask experts and listen. Do research with Google. Be receptive to mental intuition . When you take the first step (action) to the fulfillment of your goals, the second step comes into sight.

Do you believe the saying, ‘when the student is ready, the teacher appears?’ It applies to accidentally reading the right article or the right book falls off the shelf and bangs you in the coconut, or even a casual comment. Take action toward your objectives, it really works.

Coda: Kaizen is a Japanese word meaning – small improvements. It is a
concept used in the workplace. The company expects small, daily
movements to improve your activities at the plant. It works at Toyota,
SONY, and major international organizations. It will produce miracles
in your life.

W.A.B.A

If you knew for an absolute certainty that W.A.B.A. would condition your mind through positive reinforcement to reach the goals of your dreams in terms of health, wealth and personal relationships, would you start now?

We have seen the most outrageous results from hardheaded executives who use it.Use-it-or-lose-it because you snooze, you lose.

Speed

Short and sweet – the speed of speech is 150-200 words per minute. Got it?
The speed of thought is 700-900 words per minute. Now compare: when youlisten to a lecture you brain is BORED because you are only using about 25%
of its broadband capacity.

When your brain gets bored it becomes distracted and thinks of ideas that produce
pleasure (Dopamine). Unless you control your Attention-Span and Concentration, you tune out and get into Regressions – trying to catch up. When you lose your learning attitude , you stop making sense of the ideas you hear.

You are not dumb, just too smart for the slow pace of the lecturer. He speaks at150 wpm, and your brain works at 800 wpm. You need to motivate yourself.

Endwords

If you could read and remember three (3) books , articles and reports when your
peers could hardly finish one, would that be a powerful competitive advantage?
