Important Points of Organ Donation in Islam

In today’s era, the process of organ donations is rapidly increasing and people are having more awareness of it from each passing day. When it comes to the teachings of Islam, organ donation has never been forbidden to Muslims but there are certain conditions which must be followed to in order to carry out the process of organ donation.
In accordance to the Islamic Fiqah Academy, one should know the basic things before donating or receiving donation. First of the definition of an organ should be clearly known to both parties. Secondly the purpose of that organ donation should be known. For instance, either the person is donating the organ after his death or he is donating it in his life to provide benefit to the other person. The benefits given by the donator to the receiver are of three types, which are transplant of organ from living person, from dead person or from a fetus.
Now let’s suppose that a person is travelling to any Islamic country like Saudi Arabia by utilizing Ramadan Umrah 2017 For Muslims or any other, and the purpose of that person is not only to perform the Holy obligation of Umrah and Hajj but he is also travelling for the purpose of either donating or for receiving an organ transplant. Then a person must clearly be aware of all the Islamic principles of donation so that he can carry out all the processes in accordance with Islamic Shariah. Islam has never introduced any principles which may intend to harm another person in any case. When it comes to donation, it should be made sure that the process is carried out under the supervision of medical professionals who should be skilled in their field so that the patient who is receiving the organ can get all the benefits and don’t fall victim of any psychological or physical harm. Moreover, the person who is donating the organ during his life must also be provided all kind of safety so that he doesn’t get any kind of medical problem in future.
Also, the doctors should make sure that donating any organ on which life of a person is dependent should not be donated at any cost. For example, donating the most important organs like brain and heart during the lifetime of a person is highly prohibited in Islam because you can’t harm one person in order to provide benefit to the other person. Proper medical test of organs should be done to check if the organ is not having any kind of disease and the cells and tissues should match for both donor and receiver. If a person is dead and his organs are being donated, then it must be assured that he gave the permission of his organs donation in his will or bequeath before dying . Only then his organs should be donated otherwise not.
