Molds are dangerous organisms. They are particularly dangerous when they grow in the kitchen especially restaurant kitchens. When they are out of control, they pose as potential danger to customers’ health. They are also dangerous to kitchen staff’s health. Unfortunately, these things grow in environment where there is a lot of moisture and heat; thus, the kitchen is quite susceptible to mold growth. This is why it is important to learn how to prevent mold from growing in the kitchen or other areas of the restaurant or hotel. Here are some great tips that you should take note of:

  1. Clear out leftovers from the kitchen refrigerator regularly. Stale food is the perfect environment for molds. In fact, the kitchen should set certain policies when it comes to leftovers. Old food should not be kept in the refrigerator, freezer or storage.
  2. Check fruit storage daily. Molds thrive in fruits as well as potato, so if you have these things in the kitchen, you have to check them to make sure that molds are not growing. If they are, you need to get rid of the food.
  3. The kitchen should have a garbage can that is large enough to hold a day’s worth of garbage. This garbage can should be emptied regularly. Garbage is hot and moist and it contains organic materials that can host molds. You also need to make sure to keep the can covered. You need to run the kitchen’s garbage disposal daily. You also have to pour pure vinegar into the disposal in order to kill molds or prevent them from thriving.
  4. The kitchen should also have compost buckets that can hold a day’s worth of compost. Like the garbage can, this thing should be covered and emptied on a daily basis. Again, this is a perfect home for molds, so if you want to prevent mold from growing, make sure that you take note of this.
  5. Clean the refrigerator dip tray twice a year. The refrigerator has a tray that catches the water from the refrigerator. It is usually located at the front area of the refrigerator. You should also wipe moisture on your freezer or refrigerator walls.
  6. Dry kitchen areas that are saturated with water immediately in order to prevent molds from growing. When turning the faucet, make sure to keep it as low as possible in order to prevent the water from spreading around the sink. Make sure to fix leaks in pipes and sinks.
  7. Use antibacterial kitchen cleanser when cleaning the kitchen countertops and sinks.
  8. Clean cutting boards with pure vinegar in order to prevent mold growth.
  9. Make sure to turn on exhaust fans and vents when cooking in order to keep the kitchen cool. Humid air is the perfect environment for molds. Ideally, windows and doors should be kept open when working inside the kitchen. Restaurant kitchens should have ceiling fans that should be turned on during work hours.
  10. Use tile on floor and walls if possible. Tiles are perfect for preventing molds from growing in kitchen surfaces. Make sure to use mold-resistant paint for the kitchen as well.
