There are many different ways in which to raise funds for charity including sponsored activities, organising events, selling things, or simply asking for donations. You can even ask a company to sponsor you in return for advertising.

It doesn’t matter if you are looking to fundraise on just one occasion or over a longer period of time, as there are many different options available. A good idea is to set a target figure before you choose a plan of action, or if it is an ongoing thing then think of methods which will raise the most money in the shortest amount of time, or with the least expenses possible. You could do a sponsored activity such as a run, swim, sky dive or even a silence as this is usually free or very cheap to set up. You just need to ask as many people as you can for donations and then train for your chosen activity to make sure you can complete it. When you do, the donations will be handed over. It is also a good idea to try to get local press involved so they can raise awareness of the cause or you can set up a website or page on Facebook to help spread the word.

You could also simply go around with a collection pot and ask the public for small contributions. It all adds up so it is definitely worth a go. Another idea is to sell old clothes, toys or gifts, or arrange a few days of car washing for your neighbours in return for donations.

Organising an event can also be a great way of charity funding and if done correctly can bring in a lot of money. Proceeds are often from ticket sales or sponsorship deals, and because this often brings publicity too, it can help to create a much larger awareness and impact, possibly leading to further prolonged support. If there are a limited number of tickets you can sell then by arranging a raffle, auction or lottery at the event you will be able to boost funds even further. This makes it a very clever way of making a decent amount, as if the prize is good enough then you will sell a large number of tickets without having too many expenses.

If you arrange an event, then you can ask around for local companies to sponsor it or at least donate a service or gift which you can use in the auction or raffle. They can help you spread the word about your cause and event a lot quicker by contacting their client database or advertising on their website.
