There are many benefits of being able to work from home. Whether you work from home full-time, or you simply can work from home when it benefits you, working from home is an excellent option that most of us wish to have. Additionally, as most companies become more digital, working from home has become more commonplace than it was even a year ago. However, while working from home certainly has its benefits, it can often lead to distractions that can make you less productive. This can have an overall impact on the quality and quantity of the work that you do. Below are four ways to create a highly productive home workspace.

Dress Like You’re at Work

Sure, it may be tempting to roll out of bed and go to work in your PJs. It may also be tempting to lounge in yoga pants and a tank top while you work. The term “dress for success” has been proven to be a truth. However, does it matter when no one is going to see you anyway? The answer is yes. A study done by Northwestern University, the clothing you wear makes an influence on your psychological processes. You don’t need to wear a formal blazer, but at least make sure you aren’t wearing loungewear consistently to get your best work accomplished.

Designate a Specific Workspace and Use It Solely for Work

When working from home, it can also be tempting to bring your laptop into bed or the couch and max and relax while you work away. You must have a proper desk and chair that you designate for work. You also should ensure you have proper lighting and a fast home internet service . Also, make sure the area is completely free of clutter. You need to be ruthless about getting rid of clutter. Don’t let family members junk up space you designate for work.

Bring in Greenery

A floor plant or a desk plant (depending on how big your space is) will help bring in a breath of fresh air. It also gives you something to look at when you need to let your eyes take a break from the screen.

Take Breaks with Purpose

When working from home it can be tempting to take breaks to piddle around the house, stand in front of the fridge, do laundry, or do numerous other things around the house you’ve been meaning to get to. However, remember that your work hours are work hours even though you are at home. You wouldn’t leave your office to clean up your bedroom in the middle of the day, so don’t leave your home office to do the same.
