Horsemanship helps people.....How?

Prior to writing this page I found myself thinking about horsemanship training, and I was reminded how this work called horsemanship or groundwork, has a profound affect on human lives, its intertwined and forever linked.

No matter how many times I work with a horse owner, helping them have a better relationship with their horse, those people go through their own personal journey to success in the work that we do together, and its not just about horses, its about their everyday lives.

Those of you who are interested in the path of horsemanship will through working in this arena come to understand that you yourselves start down a new path of hope, of finding life's satisfaction. Its also about treating each relationship you encounter or initiate with care. This personal journey is also about understanding and simple courtesy, that makes the clouds part and the sun shine.

This translates to beautifully to personal development and life coaching for people, including and in particular to those with emotional and mental health issues.

Using horses as coaching and counselling guides, people find that they achieve better clarity to thought and actions, for themselves in their everyday lives. This giving of clarity of attention and serious consideration to our actions and reactions is something that we need to do more of in our daily lives. I have seen the results myself, as have my clients, and they are truly life altering for all parties in the relationship be they human or horse.

The beauty of working with horses in this way is that clients can have a say in their recovery...they get the opportunity to actually take an active part in their recovery and the speed of their recovery, something that is not always available in room based coaching & counselling.

Life has many ups and downs which form integral parts of our past, and our present....but need not form a part of our future....unless we choose them to. I know that my past has shaped my present and continues in part to shape my future...which has helped me have a better understanding of fear and of how to find a way to live beyond it.

Using horsemanship as a form of therapy, equine assisted therapy and learning helps people find that special place within that helps to create a better present and future for themselves - its a phenomenon that simply happens, but is hard to explain how...exactly.

Life should not be about despair or trouble, it should be about winning a victory over the many burdens that life throws at us, its about gaining a little bit of ground, everyday in our lives. Given a little time hopefully you will gain enough ground that if you are walking your right path, you will have lots of small victories along the way. There will always be heartaches and despair to deal with, but its how we deal with them that really shapes us as individuals and determines what kind of an influence we are going to have on those around us, be it with our partners, our children, family or friends....at the end of the day isn't that what its really all about.

Horses don't care what colour you are, whether you are tall, short, small or large. They are not interested in how much money you have or what car you drive, or the job that you do. None of that means anything to a horse. Horses will take you on face value for you make them feel at that moment, during your time together and its this non judgmental approach from horses that teaches us to be better about ourselves; and it seems to me that this would be a good way for all of us to be towards each other too....but we have to start somewhere first......and that somewhere is with ourselves.

Its about finding comfort, which to a herd animal such as the horse, and in fact the human...that is very important.
