Our minds are always busy thinking about things. We sometimes think about what all we have to do. We may think about what someone else has done. We may form opinions about others in our heads or talk back to someone in our minds. We tend to think things we really wouldn’t say out loud.

If we actually had the capability to read each others’ minds, we would perhaps think through things differently so others would be able to understand. Our thoughts may not be as offensive or hurtful if others could hear them. We would probably control our minds and thoughts more so we aren’t so critical and judgmental at times.

Philippians 4:8 “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”

A lot of times we aren’t really thinking about what we are thinking. We are just thinking. We do have the ability to control our thoughts. We can decide how we want to fix our thoughts and, with God’s guidance, we can fix them on the things God asks us to rather than the things we are accustomed to thinking about.

It is not so easy to think about what we are thinking. Some of us even have a hard time thinking about what to say next. Many times we blurt out things without thinking and it causes problems. God tells us how to fix our thoughts so we are able to practice what we think. He hears all of our thoughts and knows our heart as well.

If we obey Him and fix our thoughts on what is true, honorable and right, we will move away from many of the habits in our lives. We may not watch the same television shows. We may not talk to the same people every day and listen to the conversations we normally are involved in. We may stop reading articles, books and viewing the same Internet sites.

If we think about things that are pure, lovely and admirable, we will have to focus on the things of God. There is nothing on earth that is purer than His word. There is nothing more lovely than his tender mercy and loving nature. There is nothing more admirable than Him giving up His only son to save us from our sins.

We need to talk to God and ask Him to help us make a list of things which fall into the category of true, honorable, and right and intentionally think on those things. We need to read God’s word and find what is pure, lovely and admirable and concentrate on them. We have to create a new pattern of thinking and we can only do this if we are willing to change and if we are willing to allow God to change us.

It’s time to get rid of the negative thoughts which control our minds. It’s time to stop beating ourselves up in our heads about things we do or don’t do. It’s time to change the thoughts we have about others and look for the good in all people. It’s time for us to change our minds to hold thoughts which are pleasing to God. When we decide to do this, He can make a change in us so we can make a difference.
