Parents who educate their children how to be “green” not only favor themselves, but it’s another way of providing their children a better place to live. This is because our environment is constantly faced with never-ending issues such as waste disposal, pollution problem, improper utilization of natural resources, and water-energy consumption among others. Kids are great learners. They can learn as fast as adults. Teaching them good values and providing the best education will give them a shaped future. Children can learn by merely observing the people that surround them. If they see their parents do care to other people and nature, they will become like them and be an eco-kid. Otherwise, those who are insensitive to nature, their kids will most likely be like them. It is the primary task of parents to form their child’s behaviour and values. This behaviour is not only personal growth but also kindness towards nature. Edifying our children to be environmentally-concerned starts at home. Eco-kids refer to those kids and young people who have raised consciousness on different environmental issues. The following are some ways on how to be an eco-kid:  Teach your child how to recycle things. Because kids are easily fascinated by colors, decorate your recycling boxes with colourful pictures and items. In this way, learning is easier.  Bring your child when you are gardening. Explain what a garden is, how plants grow and how plants work with nature. When you go to parks, beaches and other natural places, take your child with you and certainly, they will appreciate nature.  Discuss with your child what eco-friendly activities are and what are not. Better teach them as young as they are. Explain why such action is harmful to the environment and living creatures.  Teach your children how to make use of the garbage materials.  As for energy consumption, make use of energy-saving products. There are several marketed energy-saving items such as Bye Bye Standby and Eco-kettles. Put to use those products that are harmless to the environment.  Turning off the appliances when not in use is a great way of conserving energy. Using a cup while tooth brushing is the simplest way to conserve water at home. Each one of us, including our children, must do our part in saving nature through education and environmentally-friendly activities. The problems in our environment are becoming serious, so parents should educate their children how to be eco kids as young as they are. Teaching the kids is neither a standalone process nor a one-shot lecture. The process is constant and perpetual.
