Daily Horoscope Full Moon in Virgo March 8, 2012

The full moon in Virgo arrives today, and it may be intense for some of us because it brings attention to needs and necessities, illuminating areas where we don't have it together yet. The feeling that the list is long and time is short may also creep in because Mercury is poised to go retrograde, and when it does, the most we can do is go over old things and make revisions. Today, as you look over what you've done during the last few week up until this culmination of a lunar cycle, you may feel that you come up short or there is definitely room for improvement. You may not be where you want to be, but you know you have to do what must be done. I've posted a Jim Croce song, "Working at the Carwash Blues", performed by the Muppets, that amusingly illustrates the disparity you may feel between your real, versus desired, life. The moon's opposition to the sun in nebulous Pisces is where you are spacey, vague or unrealistic now. Habits, routines, methods, health, diet and exercise are Virgo concerns, as is purposeful or service related work. Details, reality, practicality and the means to take care of the essentials are the things you need to look at now. Clean your desk or closets, eliminate clutter from your external and internal world.

The dark side of Virgo is nitpicky, overly critical or condescending, but thankfully we have benevolent Jupiter in kind Taurus being joined by affectionate, pleasure loving Venus in Taurus now, and together, they form a supportive trine to Pluto in Capricorn. Mars in Virgo is also trine to Pluto. We can see the benefits of constructive thoughts and right action now - no matter how messy or uncertain something may appear, improvement is logical and attainable. A quincunx occurs this evening between the Virgo moon and Neptune in Pisces, as well as a semi-sextile aspect to stabilizing Saturn in the relationship minded sign of Libra. This activates the trine that has been in place between Saturn and Neptune, and the sextile aspect between Neptune and Jupiter/Venus. This energy pattern brings to mind the statement, "First, do no harm". Wisdom arises from kindness now. Be kind, both to yourself and to others.

Virgo is a mutable earth sign represented symbolically by a maiden holding a sheath of wheat, and some astrological books compare her to the goddess, Hera. Hera is the goddess of women, so I find it fitting that today's Google logo informed me that today is International Women's Day!

When I was thinking of recognizable women who exhibit Virgo traits, J.K. Rowling's character, Hermione Granger, from the Harry Potter series, came to mind. Like an adaptable Virgo, she is part "muggle", part wizard and is capable of functioning well in both worlds. Like Mercury ruled Virgo, she has the right bits of information, no matter how obscure, at the right time. Like a cool, detached, efficient Virgo, who cares for the needs of others, her femininity is often overlooked. Like a purposeful Virgo, she is more concerned with how something works than how it looks, and she wants to improve the world. Here are some of her quotes:
