We have all types of reasons to celebrate. There are birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, graduations and many other opportunities for everyone to get together and have a good time to remember a significant person or time in history. There are only two real important dates to celebrate which has an impact greater than any other impact in history. Those are the birth and the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

We all have a purpose for being created. Some of us fulfill our purpose through teaching. Others fulfill their purpose through working with their hands. Some fulfill their purpose in music. However, only one man fulfilled his purpose through dying on a cross to save everyone from death so we may choose to live!

We weren’t there when they crucified our Lord. We weren’t there when they nailed him to the cross. We weren’t there when tears of blood came down his face, when others scoffed him, when they beat him. However, we are given life. Just like Jesus, we were born as babies and we can be born again if we choose to believe.

John 20:29 “Then Jesus told him, ‘You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.’”

We didn’t have to be there to believe that Columbus discovered America. When didn’t have to be there to believe that the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. We didn’t have to be there to believe the horrible things that happened to the Jews long ago. So we can believe in Jesus without seeing him. We can know that he died on the cross to save us from our sins. We can believe God wants us to live in the way Jesus lived and to believe, trust and obey Him.

It was a horrible tragedy when Jesus was crucified but it was part of a masterful plan. How much more proof do we need that God has great plans for us when we suffer? When God took His only son and allowed him to go through so much pain. When God took his only son and allowed him to be beaten and abused. Jesus had every feeling, emotion, suffering that we have had. How much more do we need to not only believe, but to make a change?

We celebrate Easter as a resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Lord. It is a time for a renewal. It is a time for change. It is a time to be happy we have a place in heaven if we truly believe in God and Jesus died to save us. He is our Savior. He is our Redeemer. He is our Prince of Peace . We can be renewed. We can change. We can do all things through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Today, we need to make a new beginning. It will be a celebration of new opportunities. It will be an opportunity to change, to remember, to take action. Let us never forget in our daily routines how and why we are here. There have been many great people who have changed the course of history in their lives so our lives could be different, but none like Jesus. Let’s make that difference God intended for us to make with a new beginning today.
