Black Holes

Ever experienced a downward spiral? You know - one of those days or weeks or months when absolutely nothing went you way? A time when the odds were stacked against you? When everything you touched fell apart? When you wondered if you would ever be able to prove yourself to the people with the power to propel you?

Be assured: everybody gets that downtrodden feeling. Everybody, no matter who they are, gets sucked into one of those black holes of desperation and despair now and again. And perversely, even when we’re at our lowest ebb, circumstances can continue to relentlessly conspire against us and we wonder just how much of a battering we can take, and how much deeper we need to dig.

So how do you put a spoke in that spiral? How do you revive a defeated confidence and an embattled self-esteem ?

Well you can start by battening down the hatches. Put things on hold for a moment. Take a step back. Then do something practical and positive and achievable. Something that you know you can do well: something small but worthwhile. And then do another and another until you feel good about yourself again.

Plug the hole.
