We all have obligations or commitments to fulfill on a daily basis, but sometimes it’s tough just to gain the motivation to do what needs to be done. Let’s face it, we could blame these distractions on anything from technology to adult ADHD , but productivity really comes down to us and the work habits we develop.

We need to develop an environment and habits that promote performance and output. Overcoming the challenges of our work and increasing our productivity can be increased providing we take some steps in order to develop good work habits from the start.

Distractions occur, because we allow them to occur.  When productivity is slacking then its time to first, think about steps you can take to improve your output and job satisfaction instead of blaming it all on outside influences.

Getting motivated in the first place

We all have days when we just can’t seem to get going. Those days you just want to crawl back under the covers and forget about the whole thing.  Then give yourself some lead time before you leap into work. Set an alarm a half hour early so you can just sip coffee and lay in bed so you’re not rushed right into work.

Forget about the phone

You’re trying to concentrate on a tough job, but that youngest kid of yours keeps texting about something completely trivial. It’s easy to become distracted these days by the very technology that also helps us. But there are times you need to just sit down the phone to concentrate on the work at hand. There’s nothing wrong with telling the family that unless it’s an emergency, you aren’t available during these hours.

Take time for nature

Almost every town or city has a natural space, so take a break from the workload to just sit by the river and watch the ducks a moment. Nature has a way of soothing the soul, so take a minute away following that tough meeting or during that stressful job to just enjoy the clouds. This will go a long way in achieving your goal of living to your full potential .

Know when to walk away

We’ve all had those times where the workload seems overwhelming and its time to just sit it down for a moment. There’s nothing wrong with taking a little break to clear your head or just walk away to gain a fresh perspective.

You could go to the break room to relax and catch up on sports scores or just mindless celebrity gossip. The point is when you return to the job at hand you’re ready to fully focus and redirect your energy back into the project with a clear head.

Make the workspace your own

It’s important to work in a workspace that you’re comfortable with. Decorate your space in a manner that relaxes you, rather than to impress the visitor. You can place pictures of your family , your pet or vacation spots to occasionally glance at to relive those special moments in your life.

These are just some of the steps you can take to improve your productivity, as well as increasing job satisfaction and there are dozens more as you think about them.

Increased productivity and job satisfaction really comes down to us developing the proper habits and routines that will help us maximize our work day without losing our drive or perspective on life.
